Ten years ago this month, the retro side-scrolling action game Shovel Knight made its debut. To celebrate the anniversary, Yacht Club Games live-streamed an event that featured two big announcements. Very few people have been in the video game industry as long as Mark Cerny, the architect of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Cerny got his start at Atari in the ’80s, and he’s seen just about everything in the four decades that followed. That’s why it’s encouraging to hear that Cerny doesn’t believe that consoles are on the way out in an era where PC gamers are getting titles that were once PlayStation exclusives.

“I think as long as we continue to create that very nice package, the future of consoles is pretty bright,” explained Cerny during an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. Cerny is also adamant that Sony isn’t trying to make PlayStations into inexpensive PCs.

Everywhere, the new PC game/platform from GTA V designer Leslie Benzies’ studio, Build A Rocket Boy, will hold a public beta starting soon. The “Builders Beta,” as it’s called, focuses on Everywhere’s building and self-publishing tools, known as Arcadia. As announced previously, Everywhere is not a single game but is instead billed as a platform of sorts that features games and game-making tools, similar to Roblox in a way.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has typically relied on its story-based DLC to enhance the narrative of its games. This is usually done in one of two ways: As a means of filling in obvious holes within a game’s plot (like Assassin’s Creed II’s Bonfire of the Vanities), or as a method of continuing a protagonist’s story to further explain how they connect to other games in the series (like Odyssey’s Legacy of the First Blade).
